Eva Fund

Honouring a Legacy, Supporting Young Voices

To mark the 20th anniversary of A Joyful Noise Choirs of Edmonton, we are proud to introduce The Eva Fund—an annual bursary program created to honour the legacy of our founder, Eva Bostrand, and support the next generation of singers.

The Eva Fund offers financial support to one young singer each year in Edmonton who dreams of joining a children’s or youth choir but may be unable to afford the registration fees. Each year, the fund will cover the cost of choir participation, helping to remove financial barriers and open the door to the joy, creativity, and connection that choral singing provides.

Through this bursary, A Joyful Noise will collaborate with Edmonton’s children’s and youth choirs to help enrich the choral community in Edmonton—supporting young singers and building connections across generations of music-makers.

Eva Bostrand founded A Joyful Noise as a place where anyone with a desire to sing could learn, grow, and experience the many benefits of making music together. From the beginning, her vision has been rooted in inclusion, accessibility, and the belief that singing should be open to all. We are thrilled to be able to carry that vision forward for future generations.

Geoff Hughes Memorial Fund

The Geoff Hughes Memorial Fund, commonly known as “The Geoff Fund”, was established in 2008 to celebrate the memory of Geoff Hughes.  Geoff, who died suddenly in August, 2008, was a member of Thursday choir.  The fund was originally established from funds contributed by Geoff’s family.  It has been replenished since then through generous donations from members of the choirs, as well as from audience members and supporters of A Joyful Noise.  Proceeds from the fund have been used to support members of all three choirs who wanted to belong to A Joyful Noise but could not afford the registration fee.  The fund has also provided scholarships to members of the New Beginnings choir at the Edmonton Institution for Women who wished to join a choir or take music lessons after their release to assist their transition to the community.

The purpose of the fund is to support three of the priorities in Geoff’s life: social justice, education, and music. Some examples include: providing scholarships for participation in the choir or at workshops for those who might otherwise be unable to participate, or commissioning new music or arrangements of music that have some connection to Geoff.

The Geoff Fund is intended to benefit members or potential members of A Joyful Noise, and participant’s in the Sing for Life Society of Alberta music programs.

If anyone is aware of a need, they may email the choir’s Director of Operations at info@ajoyfulnoisechoir.ca and ask that the request be brought to the attention of a committee (the “Geoff Committee”) appointed by the Board.  The Geoff Committee will decide if the request is consistent with the purpose of the fund. If so, the Committee will authorize payment from the fund, as long as there are sufficient funds available.

Friends of A Joyful Noise

Friends of a Joyful Noise is an initiative created by dedicated choir members. Believing in the importance of choral singing, Joyful members want to ensure that A Joyful Noise will continue to offer quality programing in a safe and supportive environment for all adults for years to come.

Friends of a Joyful Noise invites you to support the ongoing programs offered by A Joyful Noise through a financial donation or by volunteering your services. All monetary donations go directly to A Joyful Noise to be used to carry out its vision and mission. Examples include: offering the support of professional choir singers during rehearsals or purchasing equipment to allow us to offer rehearsals online.
